5 top tips for cutting nasty chemicals out of your skincare regime

Avoid chemicals and use natural skincare

Pick up your nearest beauty product. Does it contain any of the following?

  • BHA or BHT
  • Triclosan
  • Mineral oil
  • Sulfates
  • Parabens
  • Petro-chemicals

They may without you even knowing!

If you can't pronounce it, you probably don't want to put it on your body. Ask yourself, "Would I eat this?" Putting chemicals on your skin may actually be worse than eating them. When you eat something, the enzymes in your saliva and stomach help to break it down and flush it out of your body. But when you put these chemicals on your skin, they are absorbed straight into your bloodstream to be pumped through all your organs. Once these chemicals find their way into your body, they also tend to accumulate over time.

Simple, natural skincare

Simplify

Look at your beauty routine & your cleaning products. Which items are essential? Reduce unnecessary products. The average person uses 9 different products daily (and for most women I would say thats an understatement!), that’s a lot of potential nasty ingredients! Twice a day, 365 days a year! Try and choose simple, natural skincare where possible.

Research

Most importantly: do your own! The beauty industry is largely unregulated; it’s up to you to find the safest products. There are no legal standards for personal care products labeled as “pure” or “natural” so look beyond the marketing claims, packaging colour, whose using it and read labels carefully! Legally if a product contains an ingredient which is less than 1% it does not even need to be included in the ingredients list (WHAT!?) We are 100% transparent with you guys about the ingredients which are included in our products because we think it’s important- it's one of the reasons we started the range and we will ALWAYS stay true to our values.

Make sure that you trust the companies you are buying from and if you are unsure email them to ask- if they have nothing to hide their response should satisfy all your questions.

This applies to cleaning products and food too! Choose mostly organic and just like your mama said- wash your veggies!

Clean it up!

Wash your face everynight! We live in a world where we are constantly exposed to so many chemicals, toxins, dirt, grime and bacteria and our skin is like a very absorbent barrier between our insides and all of that ickiness! It is the first place to show ageing and having a solid night time skincare routine with a good quality products is one of the best ways to help your skin repair and renew. Not to mention it's a precious little bit of quiet self love time that everyone deserves! I really look forward to it washing my face at night :)

Bonus tip

Try Delicious Skin! We promise that we have thoroughly researched our ingredients and include only the good stuff! When we say natural- we mean it. NO B.S! Traditional skincare usually lists water as the main ingredient- that means that you could be paying for up to 90% water in your products, a small percentage of 'active' ingredients, chemicals, preservatives and fragrances! Water is also highly susceptible to bacteria which increases the need for preservatives. Our products have been specifically formulated so that all of the ingredients in every product serves a purpose. They nourish your skin, provide anti-oxidants and cleanse or moisturise without stripping or messing with your skins natural balance.
